Desiree and I have been getting excited, and making last-minute preparations for our backpacking trip coming up to the Cirque of the Towers and the Temple Peaks area of the Wind River Range in Wyoming. A couple of nights ago, Desiree made a smart, light-weight doggy bed for Gooch, our black lab, to take. It turned out so good, I’m thinking these ought to be sold at REI or something.

My wife Desiree and I had an extended date together this last weekend attending the Utah Valley Parade of Homes and I’ve condensed all the great things we saw into the following top 10 list of favorite features. Desiree and I went to go listen to one of those vacation timeshare presentations where they give you free stuff to listen to their sales pitch. During the presentation, one of the salesmen asked everyone what they currently do for vacation. When camping was one of the answers mentioned, he quickly jumped on his soap box and went off about why camping is not a vacation. According to him, only staying in high-end, all-inclusive resorts is truly a vacation.
A buddy Paul Knudsen and I had a fun hike to a place called Heaven’s Half Pipe on the south side of the Alpine Ridge to enjoy some Spring skiing. We started up in the afternoon from the Schoolhouse Springs Trailhead hiking the 3 mile approach.
I’m fascinated by mountains. I’m impressed by their size and beauty. I enjoy the serenity they can provide and also respect the preparation, struggle and effort it takes to stand on a mountain summit. Attempting to get up and down a peak successfully is not too different from taking on a DIY home improvement project, or facing life challenges. Many lessons can be learned, I believe, from climbing mountains.
I just found out Alta’s “Ski Free After Three” is ending February 14, 2012. If you’re going to take advantage of free resort skiing, get it in between now and Valentines Day. Hmmm, I think I might be getting a GREAT idea for my own Valentines Day festivities… What could be more romantic than snuggling with your valentine on a lift whisking you up through the trees at Alta? How ’bout it Desiree?
